Antifragility is a concept describing systems that improve from stressors, shocks, and challenges.

Though similar to resilience, antifragility is not about maintaining or recovering stability through challenges but embracing them to be better.

Becoming antifragile means intentionally doing hard or disruptive things to become stronger mentally, emotionally and/or physically.

Here are a a few tips on developing your capacity to be antifragile:

Embrace randomness: Planning is essential for building consistency and stability.

But some of life’s most valuable and serendipitous lessons come from the unexpected.

Don’t get so fixated on a plan that you miss out on the opportunity of unpredictability.

Play the long game: Antifragility requires a victorious mindset (i.e., not fearing defeat).

Faith and commitment to a big picture vision allows you to take small risks that would otherwise be a threat if you’re in preservation mode.

Lean in: The tendency when facing challenges is to withdraw to maintain a sense of stability/comfort

But have you ever considered what happens if you lean into the very thing making you uncomfortable?

It’s through this practice that we’re able to transform weaknesses into strengths and obstacles into affirmations.

The key to antifragility is to stop avoiding stress because not all stress is “bad.”

Instead of trying to optimize for short-term comfort, develop your capacity to handle the inevitable change, volatility and challenge that comes with life.
